Thermal Grizzly WireView Pro II GPU: Compatibility Guide

Full Overview and Compatibility Guide

It is a curious state of affairs when the power connector on your graphics card is arguably the component most likely to cause catastrophic damage to your system. The 12VHPWR connector has earned itself a reputation since the RTX 4090 launched, and not a good one, so the fact that Thermal Grizzly now offers a dedicated per pin monitoring device that sits between your PSU cable and your GPU feels like something that should have arrived rather sooner. The WireView Pro II is a direct evolution of the original WireView Pro, however this time around Thermal Grizzly has added a full colour TFT IPS display, active semi passive cooling, integrated data logging, and its own extended warranty on the GPU connector itself. That last point alone makes it an unusual product.

Why Per Pin Monitoring Matters

High wattage GPUs such as the RTX 4090 and RTX 5090 have seen documented cases of connector damage caused by uneven current distribution across the six 12V pins. A standard wattmeter will tell you total power draw, however it cannot tell you whether one particular pin is carrying significantly more current than the others. That distinction matters. The WireView Pro II detects these imbalances in real time and alerts you before thermal damage occurs to either the GPU or its connector. Given the number of 12VHPWR connector failures that have been reported over the past couple of years, a device that monitors actual current per pin rather than just the total is arguably overdue.

Per Pin Current Monitoring

Current is measured individually on every pin and wire of the 12V 2×6 connector, not just as a combined total. This means you get immediate identification of contact issues or uneven load distribution that a standard wattmeter would never reveal. If one pin is carrying more than its fair share, you will know about it before the connector starts to melt. That is a pretty compelling proposition if you have spent north of a thousand pounds on a graphics card.

TFT IPS Display

The full colour display offers multiple configurable view layouts that you adjust directly on the device. The display can also be rotated 180 degrees in the settings menu, which means the screen orientation is not tied to which variant you buy. You can customise the data views to show what matters to you, whether that is per pin breakdown, total power, temperature, or a combination of all three.

Semi Passive Cooling

The housing is CNC machined aluminium, which effectively acts as a heatsink. An integrated fan remains silent at idle and spins up automatically as power draw and connector temperature rise. Optimised ventilation openings in the rear PCB also direct airflow around the GPU’s power connector. The fan is user replaceable if it ever needs swapping out, which is a nifty touch.

Visual and Audible Alarm with Optional Auto Shutdown

When a threshold is exceeded, a warning appears on the display and an audible alarm sounds. There is also an optional automatic system shutdown that can be triggered via the included splitter cable. All threshold values are user configurable through the settings menu, so you can set limits that make sense for your particular card and power supply combination. This is the kind of feature you hope never to need, however it is reassuring to have.

Automatic Data Logging

The device logs per pin current measurements, total power consumption, and PCB temperature near the output connector every 60 seconds. Onboard memory supports approximately 340 days of continuous usage before older entries are overwritten. This is useful for fault tracing and longer term analysis. If a connector issue develops slowly over weeks or months, you have the data to prove it rather than trying to convince a manufacturer’s support team that something went wrong.

90 Degree Cable Routing

The downward facing connector orientation doubles as a 90 degree adapter, allowing clean vertical cable routing inside the case without any additional adapters. If you were already considering a 90 degree 12VHPWR adapter for cable management, the WireView Pro II does that job for you while simultaneously monitoring your power delivery. Two birds, one device.

Optional PC Software

The WireView Pro II works as a fully standalone hardware device straight out of the box. Optional PC software is available from the product downloads section for deeper data access, including the ability to read and export logged data from the device’s internal memory. Most people will probably leave it running standalone, however the software option is there if you want to dig into the numbers.

Extended GPU Connector Warranty

This is one of the more unusual aspects of the product, and arguably the feature that separates it from anything else on the market. Thermal Grizzly offers a 2 year extended warranty on your GPU’s 12VHPWR or 12V 2×6 connector, covered even after the original GPU manufacturer warranty has expired. If your connector sustains damage despite the device’s protective mechanisms, Thermal Grizzly will repair it or provide an equivalent replacement if repair is not possible. The warranty requires the device to have been used correctly and in accordance with the operating parameters defined by the GPU manufacturer. That caveat is reasonable enough, however you should read the full terms carefully before assuming you are covered for absolutely everything.

Video Guides

Thermal Grizzly has published two official video guides that are worth watching if you are considering the WireView Pro II or need reference material after purchase. The first covers the full feature set and configuration options, while the second walks through disassembly, fan replacement, and display swapping for anyone who needs to service the unit down the line.

Variants and Colours

The WireView Pro II comes in four SKUs: two connector orientations (Normal and Reversed) each available in Black or White. The orientation is the critical choice. Colour is purely aesthetic.

The descriptions below assume a horizontal card installation with the power cable routed toward the bottom of the case. The Normal (N) variant suits GPUs where the 12V 2×6 connector exits toward the bottom of the case. This is common on MSI, INNO3D, Palit, PNY, Gainward, and NVIDIA Founders Edition cards. The Reversed (R) variant suits GPUs where the connector exits toward the top of the case, which is common on ASUS ROG and TUF, most GIGABYTE, and Zotac cards.

Since the display rotates 180 degrees in settings, both variants can be used with the cable routed either direction. The choice is purely about which way the connector plugs into your specific GPU. Bear in mind that not every card in a brand range uses the same connector orientation, so always check the compatibility list before ordering.

GPU Compatibility Chart

Thermal Grizzly maintains an official compatibility list that covers the RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 4090, and RTX 4080. The list includes both the Normal and Reversed variants and is updated regularly as new GPU models are tested. Some GPUs are confirmed incompatible with both variants, including the NVIDIA RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 Founders Edition cards. Select a GPU series below to check compatibility.

Compatibility is based on a horizontal card installation with the power cable routed toward the bottom of the case. Large CPU tower coolers may also affect fitment, so check the technical drawing in the product downloads before purchasing. Is It Worth It

If you own a high wattage GPU with a 12VHPWR or 12V 2×6 connector, the WireView Pro II addresses a genuine concern. The question left hanging in the air is whether per pin monitoring is essential or simply reassuring, and the answer pretty much depends on how much you spent on your graphics card and how comfortable you are with the idea of a connector failure destroying it. If you dropped over a thousand pounds on an RTX 5090, the cost of the WireView Pro II is a drop in the ocean by comparison.

The 90 degree cable routing is a practical bonus that reduces the need for a separate adapter, the data logging gives you evidence if you ever need to make a warranty claim, and the extended connector warranty is something no other monitoring device offers. The device works as a fully standalone unit without requiring software, which means it is protecting your hardware from the moment you power on. Thermal Grizzly has built a nifty piece of kit that addresses a real problem, however the fundamental question remains: you are buying insurance for a connector that arguably should never have been this fragile in the first place.
