The B550 chipset is the heart of the GIGABYTE B550 AORUS Elite AX V2 motherboard and has been specifically optimized for the Ryzen 3000 series Matisse and 5000 series Vermeer CPUs. B550 motherboards support all features of the third and fourth generation Ryzen processors, most notably the PCI Express standard version 4.0 (PCIe 4.0). PCIe 4.0 is backward compatible and can be used with all expansion cards from previous generations. Additionally, the motherboards support up to 128 GB of RAM with a guaranteed clock speed of 3,200 MHz. Depending on the motherboard, significantly higher clock speeds are possible with overclocking. The B550 chipset also allows for processor overclocking.

The GIGABYTE B550 AORUS Elite AX V2 is an ATX motherboard and features one PCI Express 4.0 slot with full x16 connectivity for graphics cards, plus two PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots and one PCIe 3.0 x1 slot. The four RAM slots support up to 128 GB of DDR4 memory with a clock speed of up to 3,200 MHz and can even handle clock speeds of up to 4,733 MHz via overclocking.

The AM4 motherboard provides two M.2 slots. One slot is connected via four PCI Express 4.0 lanes. M.2 SSDs with the advanced NVMe (NVMe) protocol and a connection via four PCI Express 4.0 lanes support data transfer rates of up to 8 GB/s, twice as fast as PCI Express 3.0. The other is connected via four PCI Express 3.0 lanes. Both slots are also connected via the SATA 6G protocol and accommodate expansion cards up to 110 mm (22110).

Modern Connectors and RGB LED Lighting
The GIGABYTE B550 AORUS Elite AX V2 features two USB 3.1 Type-A ports, three USB 3.0 ports, and two USB 2.0 Type-A ports on the I/O panel. USB 3.1 achieves maximum speeds of 10 Gbps per port. An HDMI and a DisplayPort port are available for CPUs with integrated graphics.

This B550 motherboard also offers features such as a WLANax/BT module, a 2.5 Gigabit LAN port (Realtek RTL8125B-CG), on-board sound (Realtek ALC1220 audio codec), reinforced PCIe slots, and numerous internal headers. Overclocking features and an optimized power supply are also included.
