The B550 chipset is the heart of the ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F gaming motherboard and has been specifically optimized for the Ryzen 3000 series Matisse and 5000 series Vermeer CPUs. B550 motherboards support all features of the third and fourth generation Ryzen processors, most notably the PCI Express standard version 4.0 (PCIe 4.0). PCIe 4.0 is backward compatible and can be used with all expansion cards from previous generations. The motherboards also support up to 128 GB of RAM with a guaranteed clock speed of 3,200 MHz. Depending on the motherboard, significantly higher clock speeds are possible with overclocking. The B550 chipset also allows for processor overclocking.

The ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming is an ATX motherboard and features a A PCI Express 4.0 slot with full x16 connectivity plus a PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot with four lanes for graphics cards. The motherboard provides three PCIe 3.0 x1 slots for additional expansion cards. The four RAM banks support up to 128 GB of DDR4 memory with a clock speed of up to 3,200 MHz and can even handle clock speeds of up to 5,100 MHz when overclocked.

The AM4 motherboard provides two M.2 slots for drives up to 110 mm long (22110). One slot is connected to the processor via four PCI Express lanes and supports PCIe 4.0 and SATA 6G. The second M.2 slot is connected to the chipset via four PCI Express lanes and supports PCIe 3.0 and SATA 6G. In addition, six SATA 6G ports are provided.

Modern Connections and RGB LED Lighting
The ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming features one USB 3.1 Type-C port, one USB 3.1 Type-A port, four USB 3.0 Type-A ports, and two USB 2.0 Type-A ports on the I/O panel. An HDMI and a DisplayPort port are available for CPUs with integrated graphics.

This B550 motherboard also offers features such as a 2.5 Gigabit LAN port (Intel I225-V), on-board sound (ROG SupremeFX S1220A audio codec), reinforced PCIe slots, and numerous internal headers. Overclocking features, diagnostic LEDs, and an optimized power supply are also included.

A special feature of the ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming is its RGB lighting, which can be synchronized with other RGB components using the manufacturers software. The motherboard features two 4-pin RGB headers and one 3-pin RGB header. Furthermore, six fans can be connected directly to the board.
