Since the manufacturer Aqua Computer is a specialist in the field of water cooling, the control was not limited to the area of air cooling. Rather, it is a highly intelligent hybrid control that is equally suitable for air and water-cooled systems. Aqua Computer also makes this dual orientation clear in the name: Aquaero is made up of aqua (water) and aero (air).
The Aquaero is also a product that has matured over many years and has been continuously expanded in terms of functionality. With version 6, the latest generation of this fan and water control system raises the bar even higher. The most important innovation compared to the aquaero 5 are the modern switching regulator outputs with very low power dissipation. The expandability remains unsurpassed with the aquaero 6. The range of functions is simply unbelievable and will completely satisfy even the most meticulous control freaks.
The Aquaero 6 is offered in three different expansion levels, which do not differ in terms of functionality. Rather, the differentiation takes place on the basis of the operating elements, which are more extensive and convenient than the larger models.
This is the small Aquaero 6 LT. In contrast to its bigger brothers, this is installed internally in the housing and consists practically only of a circuit board. The extreme functionality is therefore all the more surprising, with the control being carried out exclusively via the Aquasuit software.
The core of the functionality – the fan and water cooling control – has been significantly drilled out compared to the Aquaero 5. The maximum current for each of the 4 output stages is now 2.5A (30W at 12V) air-cooled and up to 3A with optional water cooling. Short, higher peak currents are also possible. The output stages are absolutely short-circuit-proof and switch off the output in less than 1 / 100000s in the event of a short-circuit in order to protect the hardware. Of course, there is also integrated temperature monitoring and integrated current and voltage measurement.
Particularly noteworthy is the low voltage drop of only 0.5-0.8V between the power supply voltage and the output that is achieved in the design. This makes it possible, for example, to connect 20 airstream fans to each output and control them with any desired voltage. If you dont have 80 fans at hand, you can also connect a D5 pump to each output or 40 fans and two D5 pumps. So little heat is generated that no heat sink is installed on the Aquaero.
Brute performance alone is not everything. The Aquaero 6 has also been equipped with the option of connecting PWM fans at all fan connections. In addition to the PWM control, these can also be switched off completely. So now there are all possibilities to use all types of fans.
Of course, version 6 also comes with software for precise measurement and setting of the cooling systems. For water cooling in particular, it is very interesting to regulate the connected fans on the radiator depending on the measured water temperature. Even complex curves can be programmed to increase the speed with increasing water temperature. Various profiles for different areas of application (e.g. OC, gaming, office, video) and even event logs also allow diverse variations.
The internal memory of the Aquaero 6 has also been expanded. Compared to the Aquaero 5, it has been increased by a factor of 4 and now offers significantly more reserves for log data and upcoming firmware extensions. In order to further increase the reliability and to protect the device against errors, many input circuits have been revised. In addition, a modern voltage monitoring system was installed, which disconnects the device from the power supply unit if the permissible supply voltage exceeds 5V. This means that a power plug that is accidentally twisted will not destroy the Aquaero 6.
This means that the Aquaero control is not only extremely practical and takes on permanent fine adjustment, but is also a lot of fun tinkering with and expanding the control bandwidth.
