The Thermal Grizzly WireView Pro GPU – new edition with increased safety
The WireView Pro GPU is the further development of the device for measuring the power consumption of graphics cards. The WireView Pro GPU, developed in collaboration with Jon elmor Sandström, is connected to the 12VHPWR power plug of the graphics card and connected to the power supply via the power cable. The power consumption data is displayed on an OLED display.
What does the WireView Pro GPU do?
The WireView Pro GPU enables the power consumption of graphics cards to be measured and records this data to determine the power consumption. This data can be used, among other things, to determine the power costs of a graphics card or to compare the power consumption with other graphics cards.
At the same time, the power consumption of graphics cards can be determined over a certain period of time or for certain applications by measuring the power consumption. In addition, peaks in power consumption that can occur when operating current high-end graphics cards can be detected.
The information displayed by the WireView Pro GPU at a glance:
Current power consumption in watts (W)
Current voltage in volts (V), current current in amperes (A)
Minimum and maximum power consumption in watts (W)
Average power consumption over 60 seconds (RAVG in W) and total power consumption (E in WH)
Display of the measured temperatures of the individual temperature sensors ( degreesC)
Whats new about the WireView Pro GPU?
The Pro version has been expanded to include additional functions with plug detection, temperature sensors and an acoustic warning signal. The plug detection of the WireView Pro GPU detects whether a connection cable specified for 150 watts, 300 watts, 450 watts or 600 watts is being used.
Two temperature sensors, each located on the power connectors on the board, monitor the temperatures on the power connectors. Up to 600 watts of power can flow through the connectors, which can cause them and the board around the two connectors to heat up considerably. If an adjustable temperature limit is exceeded, an acoustic alarm is triggered.
Two additional, included temperature sensors (10K NTC) can be connected via cable. Two sensors with a cable length of 5 cm and 20 cm each are included. In addition, the alarm can be triggered if the adjustable limit for the current (amperes) is exceeded.
Which WireView Pro GPU is required?
Regardless of the type and number of PCIe power connectors on the graphics card, their orientation is crucial for choosing the right WireView GPU. The WireView GPU is available in Normal (N) and Reverse (R) versions.
If the graphics card is equipped with PCIe power connectors where the connector retaining clips are oriented away from the PCB, the N variant is required. With normal horizontal installation of the graphics card, this would be at the bottom. This variant is the most common type of connector orientation.
If the graphics card is equipped with PCIe power connectors where the connector retaining clips are oriented towards the PCB, the R variant is required. With normal horizontal installation of the graphics card, this would be at the top. This can be easily recognized by the fact that there are recesses in the PCB for the connector retaining lugs.
Attention, important note: risk of injury!
Depending on the graphics card used, especially in the case of the GeForce RTX 4090, up to 450 watts of power flow through the WireView connectors. The waste heat generated can heat the circuit board on the WireView connector to up to 60 degrees Celsius on an air-cooled graphics card. In the case of a water-cooled graphics card without airflow, the WireView PCB can heat up to 100 degrees Celsius! The WireView housing should not be touched during operation. After turning off the system, the WireView should be allowed to cool down before handling it.
