With the FireCuda SSHD, Seagate combines the ultra-high speed of an SSD with the very large capacity of an HDD. A terabyte of data can be stored on the solid-state hybrid hard drive (SSHD). The SSHD technology integrates a small (and especially affordable) semiconductor memory portion into the core architecture of a hard disk. Unlike traditional hard disks, the data that is often used by the user can be read and written very quickly.

The most frequently used data – by means of Adaptive Memory Technology – are distinguished from the data that is retrieved less frequently. The former are then available for fast disposal in the 8 GB SSD area (the NAND flash). The SSHD automatically learns during operation which data must be made available to the user and his applications quickly. This allows data transfer rates of up to 140 MB / s distributed to all zones.

The SSHD also has a 128 MB DRAM cache and appears in a flat 2.5 inch format. Thus it is also suitable for installation in flat laptops at a height of 7 mm and is connected to a SATA connector (supports SATA 6G). The power consumption is also kept relatively low. Thus, the hybrid plate consumes only 1.7 W in operation while the idle consumption is 0.45 W.
