The reason for this is not least the technical superiority of the Samsung SSDs, especially this Samsung 970 PRO in M.2 format with 512 GB capacity, with stacked MLC memory cells with 64 layers (V-NAND v4), blazingly fast PCI Express -3.0 connectivity with 4 lanes and support for the state-of-the-art NVM Express 1.3 protocol. The new Samsung NVMe SSD 970 PRO Series offers up to 52 percent faster random data transfer rates than its predecessor.
The Samsung 970 PRO M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD at a Glance:
– Modern M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD with 512 GB capacity
– Extreme fast 3.500 / 2.300 MB / s read / write
– Total 370,000 / 500,000 IOPS 4KB Random Read / Write (QD32)
– Samsung Phoenix Controller & Samsung MLC V-NAND (64 Layer)
– Guaranteed write volume (TBW): 600 TB (until then 5 years manufacturers warranty)
M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD with brute read and write speed
The new Samsung Phoenix controller of this hyper-fast drive supports four standard PCI Express lanes of the standard 3.0, which make a theoretical maximum of about 3,900 MB / s possible! In conjunction with the built-in Samsung MLC-V-NAND, the 512 GB version of the Samsung SSD 970 PRO achieves a tremendous 3,500 MB / s reading and 2,300 MB / s writing speed, as well as fantastic IOPS values of 370,000 in 4KB read or 500,000 in 4KB Write. The modern Phoenix controller chip provides a huge boost in durability. The improved Dynamic Thermal Guard is supported by better heat dissipation and ensures that 27 percent more data can be transmitted than the 960 PRO before the speed is throttled.
Highly efficient 3D V-NAND with 64 layers
In the case of the 3D V-NAND memory (or only V-NAND) of the Samsung 970 PRO, the memory cells are cylindrically stacked in several layers. As a result, on the one hand, larger storage volumes with a higher reading and writing speed are possible with a smaller area of the storage blocks, on the other hand the service life of the storage is increased and the energy efficiency is improved. Compared to the predecessor series, the Samsung 970 SSDs now have 64 instead of 48 layers and are populated only on one side, which means they have increased compatibility and can be installed in many notebooks.
Note: To achieve maximum speed, the proprietary Samsung NVMe driver should be installed and updated regularly. For firmware updates, the Samsung Magician software is also available.
