This is a backplate for graphics cards of the type MSI Radeon R9 290X Lightning. They can only be used in conjunction with a suitable EK -water cooler and the block is screwed onto the back of the pixel accelerator. Since this is usually turned upward and thus well seen in the housing , a visual upgrade is here clearly full effect as on the front of the graphics card.

In order to accomplish this task perfectly , EK logo is stamped out of the black aluminum plate and additionally engraved lettering . In addition to the visual enhancement of the backplate also provides greater stability. It is effectively prevented that the one-sided PCB as a result tightening of the screws to bend during the attachment of the main cooler and thus permanently exposed voltages.
The backplate is not compatible with the graphics card original radiator is not traversed by water , is not intended primarily as a heat sink and can not be used separately . However, it is fully usable with the matching coolers from EK Water Blocks for the MSI Radeon R9 290X Lightning. The necessary screws are included. These are longer than the original screws , as they are bolted through the back plate and the PCB with the main radiator .
