If you open your PC again after six months, perhaps to install new hardware, you usually ask yourself whether the arithmetic servant might not be better described as a vacuum cleaner. What makes it easier on the one hand – just imagine how much more often the room would have to be cleaned if all the dirt werent collected by the computer as a precaution – means on the other hand time-consuming cleaning of the PC interior.

DEMCiflex offers a solution that is particularly easy to retrofit, which in this case is suitable for 480 mm radiators. Here, the filter is simply placed from the outside of the housing onto the corresponding opening in the housing and is held there magnetically. No screws or the like are therefore necessary, which means that there are no compatibility restrictions whatsoever. Since not all fan positions are magnetically attractive, the scope of delivery includes an additional frame that is glued to the back and on which the filter is held.

The filter itself consists of a very tightly woven and durable polyester fabric. This special material is also used in clinics, for example to keep operating theaters dust-free. At the same time, the mesh is well permeable to air and therefore only slightly hampers the airflow.

This effect naturally diminishes with increasing dust, which is why the filter should be removed and cleaned from time to time. Thanks to the special fastening method, removing the fan is quick and easy. The dust can then either be brushed off by hand, shaken off, washed off and, in the case of stubborn dirt, scraped off.

Finally, a few notes on installation: First, the question arises as to which fans need to be covered at all. As already mentioned, this only affects the sucking fans. But what are they?

The safest way to see this is on the fan itself, with two arrows on the outside or inside of the fan frame. If one of the two arrows points in the direction of the interior or if the rotor suspension is oriented towards the interior, it is a suction fan. These are usually located on the front, side and bottom, whereas the rear and lid fans usually convey the air out of the housing and therefore do not have to be filtered.

In order to maximize the filter effect, an overpressure can be generated in the housing. This means that more air volume is pressed into the housing than is being sucked out of the housing by other fans at the same time. This prevents air (and with it the dust) from entering the interior through other openings that may not have been filtered.

If all fans are the same size, more fans should blow into the case than pull out. Here, the power supply unit is to be included as an additional, pulling fan, provided that it does not get its supply (fan side) directly from the outside (occurs with floor mounting). If there are different fans with different sizes and speeds, the respective air volume (m³ / h) in the data sheets give a good reference value, whereby the total volume of the sucking in must be higher than that of the blowing out fans.

Note: The area around the fan slot used should, if possible, be level and not have any protruding parts. Otherwise, these can impair the adhesion to the substrate.
