The Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is a chip specified according to the TCG (Trusted Computing Group), which expands a PC with basic security functions.

Details

Together with a corresponding software and an adapted operating system, the TPM forms a so-called Trusted Computing Platform (TC platform), which protects a PC against manipulations on software basis by unauthorized third parties.

The security features of a TPM include:
Sealing: Encryption by means of a hash (key), bound to the TPM
Binding / Wrapping: Storage of keys on data storage
Protection of cryptic keys: Keys generated within the TPM are protected against unauthorized software / hardware access.
Remote Attestation (Certificate): Certificate means that a system is TPM-secured.
The MSI TPM 2.0 module

With this TPM module in the standard 2.0, a desktop PC can be retrofitted with the advantages of a TC platform in standard 2.0, if the other kits are fulfilled. The MSI TPM 2.0 module is not backward compatible with TPM 1.2 and is supported with Windows 8 or Linux kernel 4.0. The TPM module is mounted on the TPM header of a mainboard.

Technical details:
