Pump, fan & cooling performance
Like the direct predecessor, the NZXT Kraken X42 V2 also uses a slightly larger dual radiator made of aluminum in 140 mm format. The cooling capacity and the resulting volume are not only controlled by the fan speed of the supplied 140-millimeter fan, but also by the motor speed of the pump, which can be between 1,000 and 2,800 rpm. As usual, the pump is integrated in the back of the CPU cooling block, which rests with its copper surface on the AMD or Intel processor.
NZXT uses one of its modern Aer-P fans in 140-millimeter format to cool the radiator. Thanks to the angled air inlets and outlets as well as the so-called winglet fan blades air resistance is minimized and increases the fan performance and static pressure. As a result, the PWM fans deliver excellent cooling performance of up to 166.79 m³ / h. Due to the fluid dynamic bearing made of copper, the Aer-P fan even has a longer service life of more than six years. In addition, it ensures an ever-uniform lubrication, which noticeably reduces the noise during operation.
The connection of the pump to the mainboard is done befittingly via USB, while the fan is connected as usual directly to the pump.
Infinity mirror, LED lighting & CAM software
In terms of design, NZXT has come up with something very special. On the back of the cooling block is a stylish LED lighting with infinity mirror, which gives a fantastic effect. With this lighting, it is possible to illuminate the NZXT logo and the circular LED strip in various colors and effects depending on the users ideas and discretion, which amounts to a lot on the motherboard.
With the CAM software, NZXT even gives users the opportunity to adjust their pump and fan performance themselves. So if you want to adjust the balance between cooling and volume or between pump and fan speed, instead of relying on the out-of-the-box settings, with the KRAKEN X42 V2 has the opportunity to do so. In addition, the current water and core temperatures are also specified here and it is even possible to switch between different profiles.
