AMD introduced with the R7 and R9 two new graphics cards series, which replaced the Radeon HD series. The different models are doing all players - from the casual gamer to the hardcore true enthusiasts - satisfy.
Now, what about the R9 285 of the start of a new video card model in this series in the wings. Unlike the R9 280 GPU is no longer based on a Tahiti chip, but on a Tonga GPU. Also, the memory clock was raised and Maximum TDP is at the R9 285 now set at 150 watts, which makes them very energy efficient.

The MSI R9 285 Gaming 2G 2GB of GDDR5 memory arranges itself in terms of performance over a one R9 280. The GPU is clocked at the MSI Radeon R9 285 with up to 973 MHz maximum boost and memory with 2,750 MHz (5,500 effective). For this, the GPU clock can operate in three different modes. The RAM is connected two gigabytes in size and a 256-bit interface.
The graphics card is similar to the R9 280 and 280X in dual-slot format and features a spacious open MSIs Twin Frozr-IV cooler, sitting on the two 100 mm fans. The bandwidth in communication between the graphics card and motherboard or CPU is thanks to the current interface standard PCI Express 3.0 at the MSI R9 285 Gaming 2G technically current level.
The MSI R9 285 sets according to the manufacturer already on DirectX 11.2. For connection to monitors are the graphics card DVI-I and DVI-D port (both dual-link) and an HDMI port and a display port.
Thanks Eyefinity CrossFireX and can also be more appropriate monitors operate at the same time, take over the (3D) representation. The new Mantle API enables a faster and more direct connection to the GCN architecture and relieves the CPU. A more efficient calculation of the graphic is possible and thus a smoother and more realistic gaming experience. The AMD Core Zero Power provides additionally for an extremely low power consumption at idle.
The card of course also supports the current 4K standard. The power is supplied by two 6-pin PCIe connectors. For operation, the manufacturer recommends a PSU with at least 500 watts of power.
In order to realize the full potential of the card in the future, new drivers should (formerly ATI) or MSI are downloaded and installed at regular intervals from AMD. This is thanks to the Gaming Evolved clients now simply completely automated possible.
