The RTX 2080s TU104 graphics chip, based on the Turing architecture, is manufactured using the 12nm FinFET process and is responsible for the speed boost over the 10 series in addition to the GDDR6 graphics memory. For particularly realistic light and shadow effects, the used ray-tracing technology, which is also the reason for changing the name in GeForce RTX.
