This cable allows the existing PCI Express x16 slot on a motherboard to be strategically positioned elsewhere in or outside of the case. This makes sense, for example, if you often want to install and remove different graphics cards without damaging the board slot or if you want more freedom when installing the expansion cards.

Even with modding projects or in cases that deviate from the usual ATX standard, it can be necessary or useful to place PCI Express expansion cards in unusual places. A special advantage of a riser cable is the possibility, for example, to position graphics cards individually and even to mount them parallel to the mainboard. The Lian Li PW-PCI-420 Riser Cable is about 200mm long and supports PCIe Gen.4.
