The 14-nm-plus process allows the Kaby Lake processors to achieve higher clock frequencies at lower voltages and an even higher efficiency. With the same microarchitecture, the performance of the Kaby Lake CPUs could be increased compared to its predecessor ("Skylake").

The Intel Xeon E3-1275 v6: Kaby Lake and its advantages to the predecessor
With its four physical cores, the Intel Xeon E3-1275 v6 is especially suited for servers and workstations that have only a processor base but still have demanding tasks to perform. For this purpose, the processor expects a high base clock of 3,800 MHz and thanks to Intel's Turbo Boost Technology version 2.0, single cores can be dynamically clocked up to 4.2 GHz at high speeds. Together with the 8 MB L3 cache, complex computer operations for this Xeon CPU are easy to handle.
In direct comparison with its predecessor from the Skylake generation, the Xeon E3-1275 v6 offers significant improvements, which allow a power draw depending on the software used. The thermal design power (TDP) has been reduced to only 73 watts, while increasing the performance by improving memory and processor functions. In addition, the new generation provides better hardware-based security features as well as reliable support for the latest Intel Graphics GPUs.
The new Kaby Lake processors use Intel's new SpeedShift 2.0 technology for the first time. SpeedSHIFT was introduced with Skylake and is a feature that allows the CPU more control over the clock frequency. This allows processors to react faster to performance requests and thus reduce delays. SpeedSHIFT 1.0 reduces the time required to reach the maximum clock frequency from approximately 100 milliseconds to approximately 30 milliseconds. This speed is halved again by Speed Shift 2.0 so that the CPU can reach the maximum clock frequency after 10-15 milliseconds after the start of a task

The Xeon processors of the "Kaby Lake" series continue to support, depending on the mainboard, DDR3L workstations, but are generally designed for the faster and more efficient DDR4 memory, which now supports 2,400 MHz as the standard clock. The LGA 1151 is retained as a base, while the Kaby Lake processors are compatible with both C100 series (Sunrise Point) and C200 series ("Union Point") chipsets.
The biggest difference between the C200 series of chipsets to the C100 series is the support for Intel's upcoming Optane memory technology, whose "XPoint" memory structure is designed to allow up to ten times the data transfer rate than NAND memory and extended lifetime. HDDs with Optane technology are connected via PCIe connections similar to the extremely fast NVMe-M.2 SSDs.
The improved, integrated graphics unit called Intel HD Graphics P630 provides more than enough graphics power for Intel Quick Sync, GPU computing and, of course, one or the other game between. In addition, the graphics unit supports the playback of UHD resolutions at 60 Hz over Displayport - in addition to DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.4, Vulkan 1.0 and OpenCL 2.0 - a corresponding mainboard provided.
