The Intel Core i5-7640X has a free multiplier and can easily be overclocked. But even without overclocking, the Core i5-7640X has a clock frequency of 4.0 GHz, which increases by GPU-Boost 2.0 if necessary up to 4.2 GHz. The Thermal Design Power (TDP) is 112 watts.
By switching from Socket 1151 to the 2066 socket, the Kaby Lake X CPUs are even better suited for overclocking, as the increased footprint of the pins could optimize the power supply. Thus it is generally possible to achieve stable overclocking frequencies with a relatively low core voltage.
In addition to the increased clock frequency compared to "Kaby Lake" and "Skylake", the Kaby Lake X processors have SpeedShift 2.0. SpeedSHIFT was introduced with Skylake and is a feature that allows the CPU more control over the clock frequency. This allows processors to react faster to performance requests and thus reduce delays.
