Overview

Intel's 7th processor generation is named "Kaby Lake" and is manufactured in an optimized manufacturing process, compared to its predecessor "Skylake". The 14-nm-plus process allows the Kaby Lake processors to achieve higher clock frequencies at lower voltages and an even higher efficiency.

Details

With the same microarchitecture, the performance of the Kaby Lake CPUs could be increased compared to its predecessor ("Skylake").
The Intel Celeron G3930 at a glance:

2 core processor
2 megabytes of L3 cache
Low TDP of 51 watts
High base clock rate of 2.9 GHz
Integrated HD Graphics 610 graphic unit
Support for DDR4-2.400 (Dual Channel)
Compatible with 100s and 200s chipsets from Intel
AES Encryption (Advanced Encryption Standards)
The Intel Celeron G3930: Kaby Lake and its advantages to the predecessor

The Intel Celeron G3930, from Intel's seventh generation of processors (Kaby Lake), can be compared with its predecessor from the Skylake generation with noticeable improvements that allow a power draw depending on the software used. With a very low thermal design power of only 51 watts TDP, the Celeron achieves a performance factor of 100 MHz in a direct comparison, which now runs at a clock frequency of 2.9 GHz.

In addition to the increased clock frequency compared to "Skylake", the Kaby Lake processors have SpeedShift 2.0. SpeedSHIFT was introduced with Skylake and is a feature that allows the CPU more control over the clock frequency. This allows processors to react faster to performance requests and thus reduce delays. SpeedSHIFT 1.0 reduces the time required to reach the maximum clock frequency from approximately 100 milliseconds to approximately 30 milliseconds. This speed is halved again by Speed Shift 2.0 so that the CPU can reach the maximum clock frequency after 10-15 milliseconds after the start of a task.

The Celeron G3930 has two cores that can access 2 MB of L3 cache and operate at a clock rate of 2.9 GHz. The dual core CPU supports common DDR4 memory with up to 2,400 MHz. If you want to use the integrated graphics unit, the Celeron G3930 offers sufficient performance, because the processor has an internal Intel HD graphics unit of the type HD 610, which provides for liquid image reproduction - albeit away from hardcore gaming and ultra-high game resolutions.

Socket 1151 Kaby Lake with DDR4-2400 and Intel HD Graphics 610

The Celeron processors of the "Kaby Lake" series continue to support, depending on the mainboard, DDR3L workstations, but are generally designed for the faster and more efficient DDR4 memory, which now supports 2,400 MHz as the standard clock. The LGA 1151 is retained as a base, while the Kaby Lake processors are compatible with both 100-series (Sunrise Point) and 200-series ("Union Point") chipsets.

The biggest difference in the 200 series chipset series to the 100 series is the support for Intel's upcoming Optane memory technology, whose "XPoint" memory structure should allow up to ten times higher data transfer rate than NAND memory and extended lifetime. HDDs with Optane technology are connected via PCIe connections similar to the extremely fast NVMe-M.2 SSDs.

The improved, integrated graphics unit called Intel HD Graphics 610 provides more than enough graphics power for Intel Quick Sync, GPU computing and, of course, one or the other game between. Furthermore, the DirectX 12 graphics unit with the feature level 12_1, OpenGL 4.4 and OpenCL 2.0 also supports playback of 4K, UHD resolutions at 60 Hz via Displayport - a corresponding mainboard is required.

This boxed version of the processor includes a suitable CPU cooler from Intel.
