Details

With the "Zen +" processors of the Ryzen 2000 series, AMD builds on the success of the first generation of the "Zen" microarchitecture. The Texas chip maker publishes the second wave of its high-end processors under the code name Pinnacle Ridge and knows how to convince with various optimizations. The processors, which are still based on the AM4 platform, are leading higher clock rates, an improved boost function and the further developed automatic overclocking function XFR2 in order to make the competition fear again

The AMD Ryzen 5 2600 hexa-core CPU with 3.9 GHz precision boost
The AMD Ryzen 5 2600 is a processor from the "Pinnacle Ridge" generation with six physical CPU cores, which can process two threads simultaneously thanks to Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT), so that the number of processing cores with the additional six virtual cores is effective doubled to 12. The six-core top model works with a high clock rate of 3.4 GHz per core, which precisely adapts to the respective load scenario in real time using Precision Boost 2 - regardless of whether in games or applications - and thus in fine steps on-the- fly as part of the TDP increased to up to 3.9 GHz Turbo.

The aforementioned TDP is only 65 watts, which is very little compared to other 6-core processors from AMD - especially when you consider the increased clock speeds of the AMD Ryzen 5 2600. Manufactured using the advanced 12-nm FLP process, the processor has a total of 3 MB level 2 cache and 16 MB level 3 cache, which are summarized as "Smart Prefetch Cache".

The CPU provides 24 PCIe 3.0 lanes, eight of which are reserved for connecting to the mainboard chipset and for connecting NVMe SSDs. This leaves 16 lanes for communication with graphics cards that also support NVIDIA's SLI technology for multiple graphics cards in x16 or x8 + x8 mode. In terms of RAM, DDR4-RAM bars with 2933 MHz are now supported, although higher clock rates are also possible with OC.

User intervention is not necessary - overclocking has never been so easy! Depending on whether the processor is kept at temperature by air cooling with a comparatively small boxed cooler, a larger (dual) tower cooler, powerful AiO or custom water cooling or even with extremely cold liquid nitrogen (LN2), XFR2 guarantees unlimited clock rates in the premium and enthusiast area depending on the available cooling capacity.

Unlocked CPU: Easy overclocking thanks to the free multiplier
Alternatively, all AMD Ryzen CPUs are "unlocked" and - as usual from the "Black Editions" and "K" versions of earlier models - have a free multiplier, so that overclockers can easily switch the relatively high clock rates directly by hand in the BIOS or UEFI or further increase using software tools, provided a corresponding motherboard with an OC-capable chipset, such as the AMD X470, and sufficient additional cooling is required.
Notes: Caution: This tray version of the processor does not include a CPU cooler! To use an AMD Ryzen CPU, an AM4 mainboard is mandatory.
