Due to the optimized blade geometry with anti-stall knobs and the new AAO-frame (short for Advanced Acoustic Optimisation) of NF-S12A achieved compared to its renowned predecessors greater by up to 8% efficiency (output / noise). The PWM version relies on Noctua's specially designed NE-FD1 IC for fully automatic speed control via 4-pin connectors and is delivered with a Low-Noise Adapters, through which the maximum speed in PWM mode can be reduced from 1200 to 900rpm. His outstanding quietness, the SSO2 reference-class stock and Noctua's proven premium quality make the NF-S12A to a fine choice for noise-optimized case cooling.

Anti-stall Knobs
The anti-stall Knobs of NF-S12A reduce vortex shedding phenomena in situations with medium to high flow resistance and thus extend the so-called stable margin (stall margin). This makes the NF-S12A even more versatile than its predecessor and enables better results on heatsinks and radiators.
AAO frame system
Noctua's AAO (Advandced Acoustic Optimisation) frames have built-vibration buffer and a stepped inlet area (Stepped Inlet Design) and a microstructure inside (Inner Surface Microstructures), which enable even better performance / noise efficiency.
Stepped Inlet Design

Through the stepped inlet area of the Stepped Inlet designs created more turbulence in the feed. So the transition from laminar to turbulent flow is facilitated, better the frame adhering (Flow Attachment) and thus, in particular increasing the absorptive capacity of the fan with limited intake.
Inner Surface Microstructures
The microstructure inside the frame (Inner Surface Microstructures) creates a boundary layer, by moving the tips of the fan blades. This reduces the flow separation on the suction side of the blade tips, resulting in a considerable reduction in the Drehtons and an increase of the pressure and air flow efficiency.
Integrated anti-vibration pads
Made from extra soft silicone anti-vibration pads reduce the transfer minimal vibration and are also compatible with all standard screws and standard mounting systems or CPU coolers used fan clips.
PWM IC with SCD
The NF-S12A PWM supports fully automatic speed control via PWM and includes original Noctua's new, specially designed NE-FD1 chip. This new PWM IC integrates Noctua's Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD) technology minimizes the PWM switching noise and makes the fans so at low speeds even quieter.
Low-Noise Adaptor
The NF-S12A PWM is supplied with a Low-Noise Adaptor (L.N.A.), which reduces the maximum speed of 1200 to 900rpm. So you can either run the fan with constant 900rpm or limit the maximum speed in PWM operation.
Comprehensive connectivity options
During the short 20cm primary cable helps in typical applications, to avoid clutter, provides the supplied 30cm extension Extra coverage for all eventualities. Both cables are fully sleeved and a 4-pin Y-cable allows a second PWM fan mitzuregeln the same terminal.
SSO2 stock
The NF-S12A is equipped with the further optimized second generation of Noctua grade SSO-bearing system. SSO2 at the back magnet is closer to the fan axis, thus causing an even better stabilization, resulting in a further improved precision and durability.
Metal bearing shell

To guarantee the highest level of manufacturing precision, tight tolerances and excellent long-term stability, the NF-S12A accesses a CNC milled back bearing shell made of brass.
