Fast transfer rates thanks to modern SATA 6G
The Western Digital Red Series hard drive featured here is a new high-performance, high-speed NAS hard drive with a storage capacity of 4TB. This is a version of the Red with modern SATA 6G connector. With a transfer rate of 217 MB / s, the limit of the SATA interface is far from exhausted, but the SATA 6G used here not only offers the advantage of a higher bandwidth. This is because the protocol has also been sharpened, for example, to increase energy efficiency and to optimize the transmission of multiple simultaneous data streams with high bandwidth.

The plate is also filled with helium and hermetically sealed. Helium has only one-seventh of the density of air, so replacing air with helium in a hard disk drive significantly reduces the air turbulence caused by spinning disks. It also minimizes power consumption and temperatures, allowing Western Digital to accommodate more platters in a traditional 3.5-inch enclosure.

Low power consumption and quiet operation
This design provides a 50% capacity gain while significantly saving energy. So the hard drive consumes only 7.2 watts in operation and runs about four to five degrees below the temperature of standard hard drives. With 3.7 W in idle and 0.4 W in standby mode, the remaining power consumption of Western Digital Red 4 TB are very low, which not only benefits the NAS system, but also the purse.

NAS is an impressive interface that makes it easy to wirelessly swap data between devices quickly and easily. The Western Digital Red hard drives are equipped with NASware 3.0.
