With the introduction of the M.2 slot for connecting SSDs in modular design directly to the mainboard, the already very fast solid state drives made another leap in performance, since in most cases this modern slot no longer has the comparatively slow SATA -6G interface with a maximum net data rate of around 550 MB / s, but is connected via several lines of the PCI Express bus of the mainboard.
