Seagate SkyHawk: hard drive for video surveillance systems
This version of the SkyHawk HDD series (6 TB = 6,000 GB) with a data volume of six terabytes is specially designed for continuous operation and the developers particularly had an eye on the use in video surveillance systems. To do this, the hard drive must do two things in particular: first, it must work extremely reliably, second, it must be fast in order to record video streams without loss.

Both are given at the Seagate SkyHawk. The 3.5-inch HDD is robust and durable in construction and is therefore advertised by Seagate with an enormous mean lifetime (MTBF) of one million hours. On the other hand, thanks to the 256 MB cache, SATA 6G interface and 5,900 rpm, the HDD is very fast (max. 180 MB / s sustained data throughput), so that even several camera streams (up to 64 cameras) can be recorded simultaneously.
