This is useful, for example, if you often want to install and remove different graphics cards and do not want to damage the board slot or if you want more freedom when commissioning the expansion cards.

Even with modding projects or in packages that deviate from the current ATX standard, it may be necessary or useful to place PCI Express expansion cards in unfamiliar places. A special advantage of a riser cable is the possibility, for example, to position graphics cards vertically and thus mount them parallel to the mainboard. So the cooler of the card can come into its own.
