The military-styled MSI MAG Z390M Mortar Micro ATX motherboard features a sophisticated cooling system, four DIMM slots for DDR4 RAM in fast dual-channel mode, and two PCIe x16 slots, one full 16 lanes and the other with four lanes attached to the chipset. This supports AMD's CrossFireX technology, making it possible to install two AMD graphics cards as needed.

Datastores in the form of HDDs or (M.2-) SSDs can be connected via four SATA 6G ports and two M.2 slots. The M.2 port allows the use of M.2 SSDs and is typically connected to the chipset via four PCIe lanes, usually in the 3.0 standard. In combination with the NVMe protocol, a data transfer rate of almost 4 GB / s is possible. This makes M.2 PCIe SSDs up to eight times faster than SATA 6G SSDs!
