Details
Built in the 16 nm FinFET manufacturing process the GPU104 chip in the GTX 1080 takes a huge step forward. The "Pascal" GPU architecture provides a multitude of optimisations compared to its "Maxwell" predecessor. The GTX 1080 "11 Gbps" comes with optimised 2nd-gen GDDR5X Video RAM, an absolute must-have for gamers and enthusiasts!

MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming 8G
The MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming 8G has a a base clock of 1.632 MHz in Gaming Mode. GPU Boost 3.0 allows this to increase to a Boost Clock of 1.670 MHz when needed. The memory is clocked (in OC mode) at 5.000 MHz (10.000 MHz effective). The MSI Gaming App can change the MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming 8G into "OC" mode. The OC mode increases the base clock to 1.657 MHz and the boost clock to 1.771 MHz. A third mode known as Silent Mode is also available.
In order for NVIDIAs GPU Boost 3.0 to function effectively, it is important that the electronics of the card remain as coolg as possible. That's why MSI utilises the quiet and effective Twin-Frozr cooler design. The semi-passive Twin Frozr VI has been updated, including both 10 cm Torx fans, which blow fresh air through the large aluminium heatsink and across multiple nickel-plated heatpipes. Below a certain GPU load the fans cease to spin and the cooler design allows the graphics card to run in complete silence.
The black-red GTX 1080 Gaming 8G MSI has an LED-lit MSI logo which, thanks to the RGB-LEDs, can be controlled via the MSI Gaming App and changed to any colour of your choosing. The black backplate lends the GTX 1080 additional stability and comes with a black stylised MSI Gaming Dragon engraved on it.
GeForce GTX 1080: Maximum Gaming Power for VR and 4K!
The 8 GB GDDR5X VRAM of the GTX 1080 is connected to the GPU via the 256-Bit memory bus interface, thereby permitting 320 GB/s memory throughput. Apart from the VRAM, the 2.560 CUDA Cores on the GP104 chip go some way toward explaining the incredible gaming power of the GeForce GTX 1080.
The GTX1080 series of graphics cards supports DirectX 12 as well as current gaming technologies, including NVIDIA Gameworks, Warp, Stereo X, VR Audio, PhysX and SMP (Simultaneous Multi-Projection). The most recent version (4.0) additional support has been added to offer notable performance improvements for VR, curved displays and multi-display setups.
Multiple monitors can be treated by games simply as a kind of single ultra-wide monitor, this allows the GPU to render just a single Viewport and prevent any distortions from arising. Thanks to SMP, Pascal now supports up to 16 simultaneous Viewports to enable a fundamentally more realistic display across multiple monitors, curved displays in 3D applications.
VR in particular benefits from the new technology, as it allows two Viewports to be rendered in a single pass. The use of multiple Viewports allows the picture to be rendered with a lower number of pixels calculated, which allows massive improvements in VR performance.
