In contrast to the AMD B550 and X570 chipsets, the A520 neither supports PCIe 4.0 nor overclocking. Mainboards with the A520 chipset support PCIe 3.0 and offer office and home users a reliable basis for their PC.

The MSI A520M-A Pro is an A520 mainboard in Micro-ATX format. A PCIe 3.0 slot in x16 format is available for the graphics card, which is directly connected to the Ryzen 3000 processor via a total of 16 PCIe 3.0 lanes. In addition, the motherboard offers a PCIe x1 slot for an additional expansion card.

Connections for drives and peripherals
The Ryzen 3000 CPUs provide four PCIe lanes for direct connection of NVMe SSDs. With this A520 mainboard, these four lanes are used to connect a single M.2 slot for NVMe SSDs. Four SATA 6G connections are also provided via the A520 chipset.

On the I / O panel, the MSI A520M-A Pro offers four USB 3.0 ports with type A sockets. USB 3.0 or USB 3.2 Gen 1 achieves maximum speeds of 5 Gbit / s per port.
