Overview

Intel's Extreme processors with LGA 2011-V3 are there! Termed "Broadwell-E" Intel processors for enthusiasts have the first desktop CPUs with up to ten (!) Cores. With Hyper-Threading, up to a maximum of 20 (!) Threads ready. The new "Broadwell-E" processors run on Intel X99 motherboards with chipset. This allows upgrading the processor from "Haswell-E" or "Broadwell" on "Broadwell-E" without a new motherboard or new RAM must be purchased.

Details

Intel Core i7-6850K: Extreme gaming power with 6 real cores!
The Intel Core i7-6850K is the midrange model of the "Broadwell-E" processors. The CPU for enthusiasts, overclockers and power gamers has the following features:

    3.6GHz base clock
6 cores, 12 cores with SMT!
    3.8GHz Boost Clock
    15 MB L3 cache
    40 PCI Express lanes
    140 Watt TDP

Intel's new Extreme processors: the Broadwell-E series for high-end users
A more advanced manufacturing technology over "Haswell" and "Devil's Canyon" was not the only difference between the "Broadwell" processors to the previous models. The performance per clock is increased by optimizing the architecture. This allowed for a higher performance and a considerably lower power consumption.

The Extreme processors fifth generation also benefit from the advanced 14-nm process technology, the "normal" "Broadwell" CPUs. It is this manufacturing process enables up to ten cores accommodate on one die. Thanks to hyper-threading can be handled by the top model so the same 20 threads!

"Broadwell-E": Extreme CPU with Wi-Multi for maximum performance!
The basic cycle of the "Broadwell-E" processors is between at 3.0GHz while "Ten Kerner" and 3.6GHz the Core i7-6850K. The Boost Clock is depending on the model between 3,6 and 3,8 GHz. The "Broadwell-E" processors also feature free multipliers, so overclocking the CPUs is possible!

For overclocking a mainboard with Intel's X99 chipset is necessary. Since the "Broadwell-E" CPUs the LGA 2011-V3 with the "Broadwell" and "Haswell-E" processors sharing, upgrading the CPU in this case is comparatively low. To use an existing X99 motherboard for a "Broadwell-E" processor possibly a BIOS upgrade is necessary.

The Broadwell-E processors are released by Intel to work with DDR4-2400 memory, but are of course also compatible with lower or higher clocked RAM. This is a upgrade of the CPU in this respect is relatively low if, for example, DDR4-2133 memory is already present, as it was provided by Intel for Haswell-E. For an optimal connection of the main memory to the CPU, the "Broadwell-E" CPUs feature a generously sized L3 cache.

Pro core are converted 2.5MB of L3 cache available. Multiplying this by the number of cores is 25 MB result in "tens Kerner", 20 MB in the CPU with eight cores and 15MB L3 cache for the 6-core models. The brute computing power of the "Broadwell-E" processors is associated with a TDP of 140 watts.

Broadwell-E with 40 PCI Express lanes
The 6-, 8- and 10-core CPUs the Broadwell-E high-end processor series have 40 PCI Express lanes and are perfect for multi-VGA configurations with multiple graphics cards in the composite. The M.2 SSDs ultra fast can be used together with a multi-VGA setup effectively thanks to the 40 lanes, while available for the USB 3.1 ports of X99 motherboards free PCIe lanes available.

This boxed version of the processor does not (!) Suitable CPU cooler from Intel is included.
