The SATA 6Gb / s standard, together with the AHCI protocol long the bottleneck when it comes to build fast SSDs and use. With the latest SSDs in compact and very fast M.2 standard, although for compatibility reasons a SATA 6Gb / s data line includes, but typically uses the much faster PCI Express lanes - and four pieces of it. While the gross data rate for SATA with a maximum of 600 MB / s and a net of about 550 MB / s can be used as actual data throughput, there are gross with four PCIe 2.0 lanes already 1,000 MB / s and with current motherboards with PCIe 3.0 even nearly 2,000 MB / s - more than three times as much as the fastest SATA standard. In addition, when using a NVMe SSD the speed boost by the new protocol, which is however only PCIe and SATA not used.

PCI Express 2.0 is available on virtually every Mainboard, PCIe 3.0 also increasingly ?? but M.2 ports on the board itself are scarce, and it is usually only a single slot. Very often, this addition also connected with two PCIe lanes, which significantly restricts the velocity potential. The solution: This adapter! With the adapters offered here, it is possible to take an M.2 SSD over a PCI Express slot on the motherboard in operation. Here, M.2 SSDs have in common formats in 2280, 2260 and 2242 block. Before mounting M.2 SSD (not included) can here means included thermal pads and a water cooling block are mounted, resulting in a much better cooling performance than normal adapters can be achieved. A thermal pad is between adapter card and M.2 SSD and the other between the cooling block and M.2 SSD. In this way an optimal transfer performance of the heat is guaranteed and the drive correspondingly cooled efficiently.
