The ASUS Prime X299 Edition 30 is an extensively equipped enthusiast motherboard in ATX format. It is suitable for extreme overclockers and power users who have opted for an X299 and Cascade Lake-X, Skylake-X or Kaby-Lake-X team. The visually massive board has three PCIe-x16 slots in the safe slot design, two of which are connected to the chipset with a full 16 lanes. The other is electrically connected with eight data lines. This enables NVIDIA 3-way SLI or AMD 3-way CrossFireX configurations when using a 28, 44 or 48 lane CPU.

Equipped with a total of eight DIMM slots for DDR4 RAM, all CPUs can be used in quad-channel mode and up to a maximum capacity of 128 GB with a CPU with 28 or 44 data lines, with the new Cascade Lake-X- CPUs are even possible with a maximum of 256 GB. A CPU with 16 lanes supports the dual-channel operation of four slots with a maximum capacity of 64 GB. Officially, DDR4 modules with up to 2,666 MHz can be used, with Cascade Lake-X CPUs the clock rate increases to 2,933 MHz, whereby much higher clock speeds of a maximum of 4,266 MHz are possible via overclocking.

For data carriers, the board provides a very extensive equipment with a total of three M.2 slots for particularly fast NVMe M.2 SSDs as well as eight SATA 6G connections for 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch hard drives and SSDs (including RAID support) are available.
