Overview

The current generation of processors of the Core 6000 series, also known as the "Skylake", partly due to the support for rapid and economical DDR4 memory needs a new base and new chipsets. In addition to the increased CPU power, the clearly bored graphics unit and the DDR4 support the CPUs themselves, the new series chipsets 100 ("Sunrise Point") offer some significant improvements. Instead of the previous eight PCI Express 2.0 lanes provides the Z170 chipset as top model now whopping 20 lanes, which also are equipped with PCIe 3.0 still about twice as fast.

Even with USB 3.0 lot has changed, from a maximum of 14 USB ports now support up to 10 fast 3.0 standard and is no longer only a maximum of 6. When ASUS Maximus VIII Impact of the Republic-of-Gamers series (ROG) is a very well equipped Z170 gamer motherboard in Mini-ITX format, especially for fast quad-core processors of the Core i7 or Core i5 series represents an ideal basis - as Z170 board supports of course also overclocking of CPUs of the K-series, which are equipped with a freely selectable multiplier. The black Gamer Board with gray heatsinks and covers, and red accents has two DIMM slots for DDR4 memory in fast dual-channel mode. For graphics cards provides the board a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot ready.
