Since the "Comet Lake-S" processors need a new socket due to the optimized power supply, the Intel series LGA1200 socket is used on the 400 series mainboards. Despite the increased number of pins, the actual size of the socket remains identical to older sockets, so that CPU coolers for socket LGA 115x can also be mounted on the mainboard.

The ASRock H470 Steel Legend motherboard in ATX form factor offers two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots for plug-in and expansion cards. The first x16 slot is connected with a full 16 lanes, the second with four lanes. Two additional x1 slots are available for additional PCIe cards.

Up to 128 GB DDR4 RAM in dual-channel mode can be used in the four DIMM slots. The H470 chipset supports clock rates up to 2933 MHz, depending on the Comet Lake CPU installed. Two M.2 slots for PCIe / SATA M.2 SSDs and six SATA 6G connectors enable storage drives to be connected. Both M.2 slots are connected to the chipset with four PCIe lanes and support the NVMe protocol, which enables data transfer rates of just under 4 GB / s. This means that M.2 PCIe SSDs are up to eight times faster than SATA 6G SSDs!

The ASRock H470 Steel Legend has a USB 3.1 port on the I / O panel with a Type-C socket. These are particularly thin and can be inserted on both sides. USB 3.1 or USB 3.2 Gen 2 reaches maximum speeds of 10 Gbit / s per port. Furthermore, in addition to another USB 3.1 port of type A and two additional USB 3.0 ports of type A, two USB 2.0 ports as well as a display port and an HDMI port can be found on the I / O panel.
