The chip, manufactured in 28 nm, already clocks at 3.000 MHz in the basic level and can increase the clock speed of individual cores to up to 3,500 MHz via TurboCore 3.0 with a corresponding load. Thanks to an open multiplier (unlocked CPU), the APU can be easily overclocked, but this is accompanied by the loss of the manufacturing guarantee. In addition, the chip is packed with a variety of modern features, including AES encryption, AMD-V virtualization technology, and SSE and AVX2 command set expansions.
Integrated AMD Radeon R7 graphics unit with GCN V3 architecture
The graphics unit in the form of an integrated Radeon chip of the R7 series has 384 shader cores with 847 MHz GPU clock. The graphic part of the APU team gained almost half of the chip area and has gained a lot of computing power compared to its predecessors. Not least, the Radeon R7 graphics benefit from the much faster DDR4 memory of the AMD socket AM4 platform. The underlying chip architecture is called Graphics Core Next (GCN) and is used in the dedicated Radeon R and Series Radeon graphics cards, as well as in the latest game consoles Xbox One and Playstation 4.
Overall, this symbiotic chip offers powerful computing power for demanding gaming demands - without the need for a dedicated graphics card! With a TDP of only 35 watts, the APU makes multimedia and entry-level gaming PCs possible in the smallest format. It is also predestined for use in Mini-ITX or Cube housings. Further highlights are e.g. (4K) or AMD's FreeSync and TrueAudio, as well as the low-level APIs Mantle, Vulkan, and DirectX12. AMD Logo Mainboards with the AM4 socket offer state-of-the-art interfaces and serve as a platform for AMD Ryzen CPUs as well as AMD Raven Ridge and AMD Bristol Ridge APUs. The Bristol Ridge APU itself has two SATA 6G data channels for traditional SATA SSDs and two dedicated PCI Express 3.0 lanes to support modern PCI Express SSDs in M.2 or U.2 formats Developed NVM-Express protocol (NVMe for short).
