The 8GB GDDR5 video memory clocks at 4,000 MHz (effectively 8,000 MHz) and are connected to the GPU (graphics chip) with a 256-bit memory interface. An 8-pin and a 6-pin power connector provide power to the 28 cm graphics card, and a power supply of 550 watts is recommended for operation.

To cool the graphics card effectively, XFX relies on a radiator with two fans, additional backplate and LED lighting. The special feature of this semi-passive dual fan cooler are the removable fan. By removing only one screw, the fan can be removed for cleaning. In the rare case of a problem with one of the fans this can be so separately separately, without the Grafikkarte itself must be entered.

The AMD Radeon RX 580 in detail

The Polaris graphics chips of the Radeon RX-500 series are manufactured in an optimized 14-nm FinFET-LPP process, which has increased the performance compared to the RX-400 series. The number of shader units of the Radeon RX 580 remains unchanged at 2,304 compared to the Radeon RX 480. However, the Radeon RX 580 offers nearly 10 per cent more computing power than the direct predecessor. The reason for this increase in performance are the increased clock rates in the boost, which are possible through process optimization.

The Polaris-20 chip of the Radeon RX 580 matches the Polaris 10 up to the improved Boostclock and profits like this from the Graphicscore Next architecture (GCN 1.3) of the fourth generation. Among the various innovative features of the Polaris architecture are a new command processor, a geometry processor, reworked multimedia cores, an optimized display engine and an improved memory controller. Other supported technologies include Async Compute, Vulkan, DirectX 12, and AMD's FreeSync 2 technology.

The Radeon RX-500 series is based on the same control, power and clock speed technologies as the 400 series and accordingly the Radeon RX 580 (in the reference design) has a low TDP of only 185 watts. Monitors can be connected to the graphics card via display port, HDMI or DVI-D, and EyeFinity technology allows up to four screens to be connected in a multi-display setup. The HDMI port in standard 2.0b transmits 4K / UHD resolution at 60 hertz and has HDCP 2.2 for sending and receiving encrypted signals (4K streaming, 4K Blu-Rays), while the DP 1.4 port is even 8K At 60 Hz.

In order to exploit the full potential of the card in the future, new drivers from AMD or XFX should be downloaded and installed at regular intervals.
