Overview

DDR4 is the latest RAM standard specified by the JEDEC. The main advantages of DDR4 memory, which can only be used on compatible motherboards with DDR4 memory banks, is that it consumes less power because the reference voltage is only 1.2 V, while even DDR3 low-voltage memory is still at 1 , 35V. In addition, DDR4 also increases the clock rate range, which is also official, so that most of the latches work with more MHz. Finally, the memory density of DDR4 DIMMs has been increased compared to DDR3, so that individual modules can now have even higher maximum capacities.
