Details

Thus HDDs / SSDs get a noble aluminum housing with steel base and aluminum front door, which convinces however not only by optics and haptics. Also the drive change is very easy. For this, the front flap is simply flipped open and the inserts are fitted with the appropriate plates in the hot-swap manner. The slots are installed horizontally and throw out the drives by means of a practical pressure mechanism.

The three status LEDs are located at the top and light up during the power-on state in a static blue. Each installed hard disk has its own LED, which starts to flash blue during read or write operations. During reconstruction process, however, it remains permanently red or flashes red when the drive is not recognized. The drives are actively cooled by a 30 mm fan. The connection to the PC is realized via a modern and fast USB-3.1 interface of type-C in the 2nd generation, enabling speeds of up to 10 Gb / s.

The power supply is via USB bus, which is why a dedicated power supply is not required. The DS223 is compatible with many operating systems, from Microsoft Windows 7 or later to Max OS 10.5 or later.

In addition, a full range of RAID modes (RAID 0 / RAID 1 / JBOD) is supported, providing optimal security and performance of the installed drives. For professionals and experts, the DS223 even has UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol), which allows computers with appropriate support to achieve even higher data transfer rates.
