Overview

The GeForce GTX 1080 high-end graphics card with Pascal architecture is a milestone in NVIDIA's graphics card history. Built in the 16-nm FinFET process, the GP104 graphics chip of the GTX 1080 is a big step forward. The "Pascal" GPU architecture has many improvements over the predecessor "Maxwell". At the GTX 1080 the new GDDR5X video RAM is used for the first time. The GTX 1080 is the absolute must-have for gamers and enthusiasts!

GTX 1080 from EVGA with hybrid cooler and RGB LED lighting

The EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Hybrid Gaming has a base clock of 1.708 MHz. With GPU-Boost 3.0 it can be boosted to a boost rate of 1.847 MHz. The storage clock is at 5,000 MHz (effectively 10,000 MHz) MHz. The RGB lighting of the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Hybrid Gaming can be controlled and also switched off via EVGA Precision X.

In order for NVIDIA's GPU Boost 3.0 to be as good as possible, it is important that the electronics of the card remain as cool as possible, so EVGA is using a brilliant hybrid cooling solution. A cooler is pre-installed which combines the advantages of a compact water cooling system (LCS) with active ventilation. On the one hand, the GPU, as the most important source of heat, delivers its waste heat via a water block to the cooling liquid, which is pumped inside a closed circuit into a 120-radiator and fan - a corresponding installation space must therefore be present in the PC housing! - the cooling capacity is very high in water cooling.

On the other hand, an additional axial fan is provided in the jacket of the cooler which actively cools the memory components and the voltage regulation on the PCB of the card. In sum, this concept results in a high cooling potential at very low noise levels, which also allows significantly higher clock rates compared to the reference model.
GeForce GTX 1080: Maximum gaming power for VR and 4K!

The 8GB GDDR5X video memory of the GTX 1080 is connected to the GPU via a 256-bit memory interface, which achieves a memory bandwidth of 320 GB / s. In addition to the video memory, the 2.560 CUDA cores of the GP104 graphics chip are responsible for the brutal gaming power of the GeForce GTX 1080.

The GTX-1080 graphics card family supports DirectX 12 and current gaming technologies, including NVIDIA GameWorks, Warp, Stereo-X, VR-Audio, PhysX and SMP (Simultaneous Multi-Projection). The latter is supported in version 4.0 and offers great advantages, especially for VR, curved displays and multi-display setups.

Several monitors were viewed by games as a kind of broad monitor, rendering the GPU just a viewport and creating distortions. Thanks to SMP, Pascal now supports 16 simultaneous viewports, which allow a much more realistic display on several monitors, on curved displays or in 3D operation.

Especially VR benefits from the new technology, because two viewports can be rendered in one run. By using multiple viewports, the rendered image also comes with a smaller number of calculated pixels, which greatly improves VR performance.

Despite the extremely high computing power and memory expansion with 8GB GDDR5X, the GeForce GTX 1080 works with a TDP of only 180 watts, which is compared to the direct predecessor GTX 980 only 15 watts more - at significantly higher speed. Thanks to the reworked power supply of the GTX 1080 PCB, the energy efficiency of the GTX 980 increases by a whole six percent thanks to the new five-phase supply (in the reference layout) of the GPU and the various optimizations on the PCB.

The GeForce GTX 1080 has state-of-the-art connections. A total of three DisplayPort 1.4 and an HDMI 2.0b connection are available for an image transmission of 4K / Ultra HD resolutions at 60 hertz, the latter having HDCP 2.2 and thus able to send and receive encrypted signals (4K-Blu -Rays / 4K streams). Alternatively, the GTX 1080 has a DVI-D (dual-link) output.

In order to make full use of the card's full potential, new NVIDIA or EVGA drivers should be downloaded and installed at regular intervals.
