Details

With the ROG Swift PG278QR from its "Republic of Gamers" product division, ASUS is once again setting the benchmark among the gaming monitors. Up to now, one had to choose between those with a high resolution or a high refresh rate for large monitors. The WQHD resolution of 2.560 x 1.440 pixels could hardly be represented by a monitor with a response time of 1 ms at 144 Hz. The 27-inch ASUS PG278QR makes it loose and that's not all.

The ASUS PG278QRR gaming monitor at a glance:

Impressive WQHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels)
27 inch TN panel with 16.7 million colors
NVIDIA G-SYNC technology & 1 ms response time
Refresh rate of 144 Hz (overclockable to 165 Hz)
High ergonomics & useful gaming features
1x HDMI, 1x DisplayPort, 2x USB 3.0, 1x 3.5 mm jack

The ASUS PG278QR supports NVIDIA's G-SYNC technology, which eliminates screen-tearing and VSync-induced input lags, dramatically improving the capabilities of traditional flat-panel monitors. All TFT screens refresh their image content in refresh cycles. For a TFT with a refresh rate of 60 Hz, the displayed image is thus updated 60 times per second. Each graphics card supplies the image data in variable frames per second (FPS), ie images per second, to the monitor. In order to avoid a visible crack in the image, the FPS of the graphics card must be synchronized with the refresh cycles of the screen.

A 144 Hz monitor, which in this case can even be overclocked to up to 165 Hz, has much more room to play than one with only 60 Hz. The frequently used VSync limits the image rate to the refreshrate of the monitor, Tearing, but not completely eliminate it, but generates a noticeable input lag. NVIDIA's G-SYNC module synchronizes refresh rate and frame rate with supported GeForce graphics cards without the disadvantages mentioned. The result is the smoothest, fastest and most responsive gaming experience ever.

The 16: 9 widescreen format of the TN panel also offers a high viewing angle of 170 ° horizontally and 160 ° vertically, which allows more windows and projects to be displayed on the screen, thus providing better productivity and more space for multitasking. If that is not enough, the ASUS PG278QR can also be used optimally in multi-display setups thanks to the 6 mm thin monitor frame.

The design of the ASUS PG278QR is generally designed for gaming, as well as a nice stand out stand on the black monitor, as well as a nice stand with a red LED ring and a 5-way joystick for operating the menu control. The DisplayPort 1.2 interface supports native WQHD resolution at a refresh rate of 165 Hz. In addition, the ASUS PG278QR also has an HDMI port as well as upstream and two downstream USB 3.0 port (s) and supports NVIDIA's 3D Vision 2.0 technology.

The ergonomic design is height-adjustable by 120 mm as well as swivel, tilt and rotatable so that the displayed contents always remain in the right focus of the user. Furthermore, the monitor can also be attached to a monitor bracket thanks to VESA compatibility.

The ASUS PG278QR prevents color shifts on the screen due to its very high angle of view, even if the user views the image from a large angle. The brightness of 350 cd / m² and its 16.7 million colors additionally ensure a clear and clean image.

Thanks to the WQHD screen, the user has 77% more space available on his desktop than a full-HD screen to display different windows and pallets. In addition, it is 25% sharper than a traditional 65.47 cm (27 ") full-HD screen and, thanks to its fast response time of 1 ms (gray to gray) and a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz as well as the G-SYNC technology provide an absolutely smooth picture representation.

This allows both films and games to be latency-free, and the PG278QR is much more life-like thanks to the high detail richness and the natural color reproduction. In this respect, the ASUS PG278QR Monitor is doubtless the best choice both for working and, above all, for playing.

Note: NVIDIA 3D vision technology can not be used in combination with G-SYNC.
