Details

Using the GPU Tweak II software, the ASUS graphics card can change to the "OC" mode, which increases the base clock rate to 1.506 MHz and the boost clock to 1,620 MHz. The 11GB GDDR5X video memory of the graphics card clock with enormous 5.505 MHz (effectively 11.010 MHz) and for the power supply of the 30 cm long graphics card two 8-pin PCIe connections are needed. The power supply should supply at least 600 watts.

With the DirectCU III cooler design from ASUS, the copper heatspipes are located directly on the graphics chip. The heat dissipated on aluminum fins is swirled by three fans. If the graphics chip is not fully charged and requires less cooling, the fans are either shut down or switched off completely, which allows a very quiet operation of the graphics card. The gray-black radiator cover is equipped with RGB LED lighting and a backplate serves to stabilize the graphics card.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card is based on the GP102 graphics chip with Pascal architecture and is the gaming flagship of the GeForce GTX 10 series. The GTX 1080 Ti is predestined for playing in 4K / UHD resolution and a very good platform for experiencing the virtual reality - a VR-glasses with huge 11 GB of video memory, enormous 3,584 computation cores (CUDA cores) and high GPU clock rates As the HTC Vive provided.

The production of the graphics chips in the 16-nm-FinFET-method makes it possible to accommodate sensational 12 billion transistors on the 471 mm² GP102 chip. The 16-nm process also adds a low power consumption of 250 watts TDP to the graphics card in combination with the Pascal architecture. This low TDP makes it possible, with a corresponding cooler design, to increase the chip clock over longer periods in the boost.

The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card is equipped with gigantic 11GB GDDR5X video memory, which is connected to the chipset via a 384-bit memory interface. GDDR5X-VRAM has a 50 percent increase in bandwidth as a GDDR5-VRAM, resulting in a memory bandwidth of 484 GB / s in combination with the high memory clock rate.

Supported features of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti include DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.5, Vulkan, 3D Vision, NVIDIA Surround, Tessellation, PhysX, Ansel, CUDA, NVENC, SMX, GPU Boost 2.0, Adaptive Vertical Sync, SLI, Sync, VXGI, Super Resolution, 4K Ultra HD Support, 4K Surround, NVIDIA ShadowPlay, NVIDIA GameStream, HDCP and Simultaneous Multi-Projection 4.0.
Virtual Reality and 4K gaming with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP) version 4.0 allows the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti to save geometry performance during rendering by deriving multiple views from a single geometry calculation. The Pascal architecture supports up to 16 of these simultaneous viewports. SMP is especially interesting for Virtual Reality (VR) and can dramatically improve the performance of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti when compared to its predecessors.

A component of SMP 4.0 is the so-called lens-matched-shading (LMS), which optimizes the image computation by not calculating image contents, which are blurred by the lenses in the VR glasses. The curved lenses lie between the eye and the display, so that a correct adjustment of the image has to be made.

Asynchronous Compute is the simultaneous execution of rendering and compute commands and is particularly interesting in combination with APIs such as DirectX 12 or Vulkan. Here, more efficient and thus faster communication between the CPU and GPU takes place. With Pascal, the GTX 1080 Ti is able to cancel and save calculations ("Pre Emption").

Asynchronous Timewarp and Interleaved Reprojection technology are methods used by VR glasses to prevent the Framerate from dropping below 90 hertz. With Asynchronous Compute, the GP102 graphics chip can better prioritize these two techniques, which are important for VR, and guarantee an incredible VR experience!
