Using the GPU Tweak II software, the ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 O6G 9 Gbps can switch to "OC" mode. The OC mode increases the base clock to 1,620 MHz and the boost clock to 1,847 MHz. The memory clock is at 4.513 MHz (effectively 9.026 MHz) MHz and 4.550 MHz (effectively 9.100 MHz) in the OC mode. A semi-passive cooling design is used to cool the graphics card.

With the DirectCU II cooler design from ASUS, the copper heatspipes are located directly on the graphics chip. The heat dissipated on aluminum fins is swirled by two fans. If the graphics chip is not fully charged and requires less cooling, the fans are either shut down or completely switched off. This allows the graphics card to operate as quietly as possible.

The GeForce GTX 1060 "9 Gbps" in detail

The GP106 graphics chip of the GeForce GTX 1060 is manufactured in the 16-nm FinFET process and is based on the NVIDIA Pascal GPU architecture. The GeForce GTX 1060 can be compared to its predecessor from the Maxwell generation with improved efficiency and impressive performance. The GP106 graphics chip has 1,280 shader units, which are called NVIDIA CUDA cores and help the graphics card to a good performance.

The GeForce GTX 1060 "9 Gbps" has optimized GDDR5 RAM with increased memory capacity and is available in versions with 3 or 6 GB VRAM. The 6 GB GDDR5 video memory of the GTX 1060 is connected via a 192-bit memory interface to the GPU, which achieves a memory bandwidth of 216 GB / s.

The GTX-1060 graphics card family supports DirectX 12 and current gaming technologies, including NVIDIA Ansel, GameWorks, Warp, Stereo-X, VR-Audio, PhysX and SMP (Simultaneous Multi-Projection). SMP 4.0 offers great advantages for VR, curved displays and multi-display setups.

Thanks to SMP 4.0, Pascal supports 16 simultaneous viewports, which allow a much more realistic display on multiple monitors or on curved displays. Especially the gambling in the Virtual Reality (VR) benefits from the new technology, because two viewports can be rendered in one run. By using multiple viewports, the rendered image also comes with a smaller number of calculated pixels.

The GeForce GTX 1060 "9 Gbps" works with a TDP of only 120 watts and it is recommended to use a power supply with a power of at least 400 watts. The reference design has an HDMI 2.0b connector, three DisplayPort 1.4 connectors, and a dual-link DVI output. The HDMI port supports HDCP 2.2 and can send and receive encrypted signals.

In order to make full use of the card's full potential, new drivers from NVIDIA or the manufacturer should be downloaded and installed at regular intervals.
