Details

Game designers get a graphics card with the AMD Frontier Edition, with which content can be created, played for testing and subsequently optimized. In research, the Vega architecture can be used to compute algorithms in the field of machine learning. AMD's Vega workstation graphics cards are the perfect tool for all content creators.

The AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition "Air"

The AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition Air is based on the Vega architecture and is equipped with 16GB High Bandwidth 2nd Generation Memory (HBM2), which are located directly on the GPU die. The memory is connected to the graphics chip via a huge 2.048-bit interface and the memory bandwidth is approx. 483 GB / s. The HBM2 memory clocks at 945 MHz, while the graphics chip usually operates at 1.382 MHz and can boost to a maximum of 1,600 MHz. The FP32 Compute Performance is up to 26.2 / 13.1 TFLOPS and the pixel filling rate is 102.400 MPix / s while the texel filling rate is 409.600 TPix / s.

With three times DisplayPort 1.4 and once HDMI, the AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition Air provides four video outputs. AMD Radeon Vega graphics cards also support the APIs (Application Programmer Interface) OpenGL 4.5, OpenCL 2.0 and Vulkan.

The AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition Air is cooled with an efficient radiator fan. The front as well as the backplate, which is provided with ventilation slits, are held in blue and the surface structure is reminiscent of anodized aluminum. The radiator cover is decorated with a yellow Vega logo and a yellow "R" glows in the upper right corner. The power is supplied by the PCIe slot and two additional 8-pin PCIe connectors.
The architecture of the AMD Radeon Vega graphics cards

The Vega architecture not only includes many improvements to the Graphics Core Next architecture (GCN) of past GPU generations, but also introduces completely new components. The Vega GPU architecture is primarily based on four new pillars:

High Bandwidth Cache Controller (HBCC)
Rapid-Packed Math (RPM) of Next-Gen Compute Units (NCU)
New Programmable Geometry Pipeline
Enhanced Pixel Engine
High Bandwidth Cache Controller (HBCC)

AMD's High Bandwidth Cache Controller (HBCC) The High Bandwidth Cache Controller (HBCC) allows a much more effective use of the HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) memory compared to the Fiji GPUs for which this particular memory type has been used for the first time , The HBC controller allows very efficient control of the memory and increases the minimum frames per second (FPS) in many games by up to 100 percent and the maximum FPS by more than 50 percent. This almost equals a doubling of the 16 GB HBM2-VRAM of the Radeon Vega Frontier Edition to 32 GB equal!
Next-Gen Compute Unit (NCU) & Rapid Packed Math (RPM)

Rapid-Packed Math (RPM) is a feature of the Next-Gen Compute Unit (NCU) and uses the very flexible core structure of the new computing units. RPM, for example, accelerates FP16 calculations, which can be used to calculate mathematical-based processes more quickly. With the RPM enabled, the number of computations performed per second is doubled, but no more resources are consumed. Above all, physics calculations like those carried out during major explosions in some games benefit from Rapid Packed Math.

New Programmable Geometry Pipeline

The New Programmable Geometry Pipeline from AMD Vega Vega's new programmable geometry pipeline handles millions of polygons thanks to its efficient load distribution. The AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition Air provides a maximum geometry calculation of 11 polygons (using 4 geometry units) per clock, which is twice as much as the Radeon R9 Fury X with 4 polygons per clock with 4 geometry units. Modeling applications in particular benefit from this and can render large 3D models almost real-time.
Enhanced Pixel Engine

The Enhanced Pixel Engine is an optimized configuration of the shader units, which greatly improves the performance in high resolutions (WQHD, UHD) and the representation of the virtual reality (VR). More specifically, the Enhanced Pixel Engine is a new rasterizer technology that optimizes cache localization and makes rendering processes more efficient.
In order to exploit the full potential of the card in the future, new drivers from AMD should be downloaded and installed at regular intervals.
